A WWI New Zealand Mounted Rifles Reinforcements badge. This design differs from the standard Territorial 9th Regiment badge, which features a Latin motto on the scroll instead.

It was introduced later in World War I (from the 12th Reinforcements onwards) as a general badge for troops training to join the Mounted Rifle Brigade in Egypt, Gallipoli, and Palestine.
