Irish Rangers Silver & Gilt, long rear screw

A 51mm (2-inch) long rear screw is an intentional adaptation for mounting onto a Caubeen (the traditional Irish military beret).

(To mount the insignia over the caubeen, the fitting had to pierce through the heavy wool of the beret, pass cleanly through the dense wire-and-quill core of the feather hackle, and navigate the inner satin lining of the cap. A long, single screw post was soldered to the silver backplate, secured tightly on the inside of the hat using a wide brass washer and a small thumb nut to ensure the heavy badge wouldn’t sag, swivel, or fall off during a parade or march).
